BASIC WOODLAND OPERATIONS (BASIC TRACKING, NAVIGATION, SURVIVAL, EVASION)

Liability Release Forms will be required to be signed before beginning class.

Reasonable physical fitness required! Class size limited to 10 new students. 

Required Gear: Small Pack, Machete and/or fixed blade knife, Baseplate Compass & Pace Count Beads (Silva Ranger preferred), Water bottle, Water purification tablets and/or small filter, Poncho, Quick-dry clothing (BDUs), Flashlight, Watch, Hat, Notepad and pencil/pen, Camera w/ extra batteries. If you have special gear requirements due to medical or other reasons, please contact us.

COURSE  ITINERARY:

 

April 19 - Day 1:

0800-1000 Hours: Classroom – Map & Compass

1000-1200 Hours: Classroom – Tracking Basics

Lunch Break

1300-1600 Hours: FTX – Basic Tracking Elements  

0600-1700 Hours: Classroom – Escape and Evasion  

 

April 20 - Day 2:

0700-0800 Hours: Morning Q&A Session

0800-1100 Hours: FTX - Tracking

Lunch Break

1200-1900 Hours: FTX – Map and Compass

 

April 21 – Day 3:

0700-0800 Hours: Morning Q&A Session

0800-1200 Hours: Classroom – Wilderness Survival and Basic High Angle Rope Skills (Knots, Rope Rigging, Rapel Techniques)

Lunch Break

1300-1900 Hours: FTX – Basic Survival Skills / Rappelling

 

April 22 – Day 4:

0700-0800 Hours: Morning Q&A Sessions

0800-1100 Hours: Field Tracking Exercise

Overnight FTX.  Students will be required to perform the following tasks:

1)    Navigate to a location on their maps

2)    Build emergency shelter and fire (survival camp)

3)    Demonstrate proper signaling techniques

No tents, sleeping bags or extra gear will be allowed. Students will be required to be wet before sundown. No food or snacks to be carried into the field for this FTX. Students will be allowed one water bottle with purification tablets, a knife (or machete) and an emergency pocket survival kit (kit will be supplied by RAT) - NO OTHER GEAR. Team first aid kit and rope gear will be carried in by the instructors.

 

April 23 – Day 5:

Final Objective Test (FTX)

End of course. Certificates of Completion issued.
